Terms of Service
These terms are the contract between you and Rift Software for the QRVnet service at qrv.riftly.cloud. They are a draft. They are not legal advice, and they are not a statement that any particular transmission complies with the law.
Who may use the service
The service is open to everyone for listening and for general chat rooms that are not amateur-radio transmissions. Transmitting on amateur channels, RF-linked groups, and sending traffic onto amateur radio is restricted to licensed amateurs with a verified licence. Non-licensed people may not transmit or originate amateur traffic.
You are responsible for your traffic
You are solely responsible for all traffic you originate and for compliance with FCC Part 97 and all applicable laws. QRVnet does not act as your control operator. A node, repeater, or hotspot owner, and the control operator of that station, keep their Part 97 responsibilities, including the duties in 47 CFR 97.103 and 97.105.
Account information
You will give accurate account information. Ham accounts use the callsign and the name and mailing address that can be compared with the public licence record. You will not register someone else’s callsign as your own. Listener accounts do not receive a callsign and do not receive transmit rights on amateur channels.
Verification and moderation
We may check a callsign against public sources and against proofs you choose to give us, including a Logbook of the World login or a licence document. We may approve, reject, or leave an account pending. Moderators and admins may suspend an account. The bootstrap admin callsign is assigned by the server; it is not a right you can claim by typing a callsign you do not hold.
Messages are not private
Store-and-forward messages and bulletins on the amateur network are public, permanent, and not private. Amateur communications are not confidential. A message that has been copied to another node cannot be recalled. Hiding a message in a screen is not deletion from every copy.
Email gateway
A verified ham may be given an address of the form CALL@qrv.riftly.cloud. Mail that is relayed toward amateur radio is third-party traffic and is allowed only as Part 97 and the control operator permit, including international limits. The gateway may refuse, shorten, or hold mail. Automatic read-back of internet mail on RF is off unless the trustee turns it on. The mailbox tools themselves may not be switched on yet; the address rule still applies when they are.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate an account, a node key, or access to a channel for a breach of these terms, the Acceptable Use Policy, or the law, or to protect the network and other operators. Suspension takes effect on the next request, because the server re-reads the account.
No warranty
The service is provided as available. There is no warranty of uninterrupted operation, of fitness for emergency communications, or of accuracy of a licence lookup. Do not depend on QRVnet as your only means of reaching help.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Rift Software is not liable for lost traffic, a failed identification, a missed emergency message, or damages arising from your transmissions or from a station you control. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limits. In those places the limit applies as far as it is allowed to apply.
Commercial LMR
Commercial land-mobile radio under Part 90 is a separate future offering. It is governed by the licensee’s authorization and by separate terms. It is not part of this amateur service, and it is not bridged onto Part 97 channels.
Changes
We may change these terms. The version string you accept is stored with your account. Continued use after a new version is posted, when we ask you to accept it, requires that acceptance. The current draft version is 2026-10-07-draft.
