Acceptable Use Policy
This policy is how QRVnet expects you to behave. It is not a ruling on the regulations. The regulations are the regulations. Read 47 CFR Part 97 on eCFR.
No obscured meaning on amateur paths
Do not send messages encoded or encrypted for the purpose of obscuring their meaning on amateur paths. That prohibition tracks 47 CFR 97.113(a)(4). Cryptographic signatures are allowed on QRVnet because a signature does not obscure the meaning of the message; it is an authenticity check anyone can test with the public key. This sentence is the service rule. It is not a claim that a court has blessed signatures.
Station identification
Identify as required by 47 CFR 97.119. Voice channels carry the talker’s callsign in the session. Nodes run their own CW or voice ID on the trustee’s schedule. Data bursts carry the station’s callsign. You still identify your own station. The software does not do it for you.
No communications for hire
Do not use amateur channels or the amateur mailbox for communications in which you or your employer has a pecuniary interest, beyond what 47 CFR 97.113 allows. The mailbox is not a business channel.
Third-party traffic
Third-party traffic is allowed only as 47 CFR 97.115 allows. That includes internet email relayed onto RF. International third-party traffic is restricted. The control operator of the station that transmits decides. QRVnet defaults to not reading arbitrary internet mail back on the air.
Control operator
The control operator is responsible for the station under 47 CFR 97.103 and 47 CFR 97.105, including automatic and remote control of nodes. You will keep a way to unkey and to drop a link that does not depend on our cloud. If you do not know who the control operator is, do not key the transmitter.
Prohibited signals
Do not transmit music, obscenity, false or deceptive signals, one-way broadcasting in the sense Part 97 forbids, or deliberate interference (47 CFR 97.101(d)).
Repeaters, nets, and data
Respect repeater owners’ rules and net control. If a net is in progress, yield the floor. Data bursts on a shared repeater must be brief and must listen before they transmit. Do not enable a data modem on a repeater unless you are the owner or you have the owner’s permission. The software cannot detect that permission.
General chat rooms
General rooms are not amateur-radio transmissions. Content there must still be lawful and respectful. No threats, no harassment, no unlawful material. Listeners may talk in those rooms. That permission does not extend to ham channels.
Accounts
Do not share an account. One person, one login. A club callsign is not a substitute for the trustee’s own verified licence. Report abuse to support@qrv.riftly.cloud (placeholder).
Enforcement
We may remove access, reject a licence claim, revoke a node key, or hide a message in the interface. Hiding does not pull a copy back from a node that already has it. Serious interference and false distress traffic may also be a matter for the FCC or another authority. We will cooperate with lawful process.
